Αφετηρία του ομίλου ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ ΑΒΕΕ υπήρξε η οικογενειακή στην αρχική της μορφή επιχείρηση υπό την επωνυμία ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ ΙΩΑΝΝΟΥ Κ ΣΙΑ, το 1970. Αντικείμενο της παραγωγικής δραστηριότητας της ως άνω επιχείρησης υπήρξε εξ αρχής η κατασκευή σωλήνων γεωτρήσεως, και θερμοσιφώνων, η οποία συνεχίζεται μέχρι και σήμερα, στις ιδιόκτητες εγκαταστάσεις της επιχείρησης συνολικής εκτάσεως 30.000 τ.μ. Το 1997 υπό την εποπτεία του αυτοδημιούργητου κου Ιωάννου ιδρύεται η ΛΑΤΟ, η οποία επιδίδεται στο έργο της παραγωγής ηλιακών συστημάτων, θερμοσιφώνων και μπόιλερ και η οποία ως μέλος της οικογένειας Χρήστος Ιωάννου επιτυγχάνει την εδραίωση της στον ελληνικό χώρο.Η ηγετική θέση που κατέκτησε η επιχείρηση με όπλα το μεράκι και την συνεχή προσπάθεια για βελτίωση δεν άργησε να οδηγήσει στην διάθεση των προϊόντων της και στον υπόλοιπο ευρωπαϊκό χώρο.
